The highly anticipated Ragnarok Online 3 is still far from release, but new insights have surfaced from an exclusive Q&A session with the RO3 game director during the Pioneer Test period. While all details are still subject to change, here are the most important points for fans and future players.

Combat Power System
The development team confirmed that a Combat Power (CP) system is not currently implemented in the Pioneer Test. CP would only serve as a representation of a character’s investment level (gear, refinement, stats, cards) and would not directly influence damage formulas. Its inclusion in the final game also depends on player feedback.
Unlimited Grinding
Players will be able to grind endlessly, but progression balance will be maintained through daily boosted EXP limits (e.g., 10x EXP for a set period). The main character progression will still come from limited instance dungeons rather than free grinding.
MVPs and Nostalgia
Classic MVPs will return but with new skills and mechanics. The team aims for a mix of nostalgia and innovation, acknowledging that nostalgia alone is not enough to keep players engaged.
Seasonal Resets
Seasons will last 2-3 months, with seasonal stats and growth resetting each cycle. Some elements, like cards, will remain relevant across seasons. Meta changes will be intentional to encourage adaptation. Paid progression will be designed to retain value longer.
Refinement System
It is still undecided whether failed refinement attempts will result in equipment loss. The team is weighing the excitement of rare high-refinement gear against the frustration of gear destruction.
Trading, Auction, and RMT
- Vending: Player shops placed in the world.
- Auction: Centralized marketplace.
- Certain items will only be tradeable in one of the systems, likely to prevent abuse such as resource funneling between accounts.
- Anti-bot measures include a social credit system that tracks trade history and player activity.
Final Thoughts
The RO3 Q&A showcased ambitious ideas – from balancing casual and hardcore players to potentially legalizing RMT in-game. However, with release still a long way off, every feature is subject to change. As always, take these early details with caution.
